About the Author
General Abdulsalami Alhaji Abubakar, the 11th Head of State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, was born in Minna, Niger State, on June 13, 1942, to Mallam Garba Abubakar Jibrin and Hajiya Fatima Kande Abubakar Jibrin.
Military Career

Enlistment: Joined the Nigerian military on October 3, 1963.

Training: Attended basic and advanced military training in Uetersen, Germany, in 1964.

Commission: Originally in the Nigerian Air Force, he transferred to the Nigerian Army in 1966 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in October 1967.

Rise to Leadership: Held various staff and command appointments before being appointed Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) in 1993.
